Cheow Lan LakeCheow lan Reservoir was created in 1982, and the area became a National Park shortly thereafter. Today Cheow Lan is arguably one of Thailand's most scenic artificially created bodies of water, we say arguably simply for the fact there are now so many Lakes created by damning in Thailand most of which offer stunning scenery and opportunities to observe wildlife that at times it's hard to decide which are more impressive. At the time of damming 100's of square kilometers of rain forest became submerged. Although lots of wildlife was displaced, most species that existed prior to damning still thrive in the tropical forests that kling precariously to the limestone cliffs that form the perimeter of the reservoir. When an angler takes a fishing expedition here and takes up residence in a floating bungalow, they will truly be at one with the surrounding jungle and be serenaded by the cry of gibbons, a multitude of bird song and an entire jungle chorus of animals and insect, every dawn and dusk
