Introduction |
Thailand's fishing scene is perhaps currently best known for two of the world's largest freshwater fish, the Giant Mekong Catfish and the world’s largest carp, the Giant Siamese Carp. These two fish have become the primary target for the vast majority of visiting anglers, and the size of the fish that are being caught just keeps going up!
Before the advent of competition between guiding services there was very little information published about 50kg/100LB+ Carp or 100kg/200LB+ Catfish. Yet now, all of a sudden everyone is catching them! Perhaps that's because up until a year or so ago one of Thailand's best kept secrets was that fish of this size are in fact in abundance at some venues, and fish far bigger than any published records are being captured on a fairly regular basis particularly on Bungsamran, before the advent of competition, information was being drip fed to the angling media for publicity purpose only, but more competition has exposed the truth and there's hardly a month goes by when an angler doesn't take a 100lb+ Carp for example. That is not to say it is easy to catch a fish of this calibre, but they are there to be caught in numbers and local anglers, and visiting anglers "in the know" have been catching them regularly for years. Siam Fishing Tours currently target four venues for these species, Bungsamran, Cha-Am Fishing Park Shadow Lake, and Palm Tree Lagoon.
